Let me preface this article by saying, Hawaii has a beautiful climate year round. And here are some things you might want to know about Hawaii weather in March. While the weather on the mainland United States is usually quite blustery and chilly in March, the weather here is generally quite lovely.
Hawaii does have more one than one climate region, but if you are visiting the south or west shore of any of the Hawaiian islands, you will likely experience warm days in the low 80's and evenings in the high 60's. The average high for Honolulu (sunny south shore) in March is 82°, and the average low is 67°. The average high for Kaneohe (east side, which gets lots more rain) is almost identical: 82° high and low is 66.°
As at any other time of the year, Hawaii weather in March will vary with elevation. You might still see snow capping the Big Island's Mauna Kea in March!
In Hawaii, March falls in the winter season, but as you can see from the temperatures I just mentioned, winter in Hawaii is not winter on the mainland (unless you're in Arizona!).
Hawaii has only two seasons: winter and winter. Summer is April through September, and winter is October through March. There are two main differences between winter and summer. Rain and temperature.
The windward (east) side of each of the islands receives much more rain in the winter than that summer, especially during the months of November through March. It is not a cold rain though and usually not a constant drizzle. Mostly when it rains in Hawaii, it really comes down fast! Then the sky clears and you have a rainbow. Another thing I like about the rain here - on the windward side, even though there's a lot of rain, the rain often falls only at night and in the morning.
Sometimes though it rains day after day after day after day...
Fortunately, you don't have to drive far to find sunshine because it's almost always sunny on the leeward (west and southwest) shore. No matter what shore of any of the Hawaiian islands you are visiting, Hawaii weather in March is going to be at most about 5 degrees less than in July, which makes March a really nice time for visit if you're planning on activities on the sunnier and drier leeward side because it won't be very hot at all.
