Max of Manila Waipahu Hawaii

Here in Hawaii I have many Filipino friends and neighbors. However, the extent of my knowledge of the Filipino community Pancit, egg rolls and neon-colored car. To my delight, I learned a little 'more about the Filipino community during dinner at Max of Manila in Waipahu on the island of Oahu.

I wanted to try a Filipino restaurant for a different variety, rather than the same 'ol Italian and American joint we always go. After receiving theMax's menu, I ordered had no idea what. I've never seen pork belly in so many different types of menus (well, I take it again - it seems that Chinese restaurants can hog a million different ways with the same two ingredients). Our waiter was extremely helpful - more like ... excited! His eyes lit up when he first discovered that we were not really had an authentic Filipino meal. He was very enthusiastic, the food of their culture to share with myFamily.

We have almost everything has recommended order. He said that this food is the only Hawaii restaurant Filipino who served five courses. There was a particular dish that I liked. For the life of me I can not remember the name of the Philippine court, but it was fried pork belly covered in a sauce of coconut rice with jalapenos and garlic (a must). Very different but very tasty.

Now, we must not forget about dessert! And leche flanBuko Pandan were candy du jour. Although I had several times before flan, Buko Pandan was definitely something different. Buko Pandan saw something like a big glass of milk with diced green jelly and slices of fresh coconut Baby --- very refreshing. I looked at the recipe from the net and it was a concept totally alien to me ---- I have never had more than half of the ingredients first portion (In addition, there was no English translation for ingredients on the website,I looked up. I had known what the ingredients have been translated into English for me). However, I learned that one of the main components of the pandan flavor gelatin dessert is ready. If you do not know what it is --- a pandan leaf from the tree screwpine. Hawaiians call this a tree Lauhala. Not only can you leave a delicious dessert from the essence of pandan or Lauhala, you can also use the leaves in the same weave hats and bags! Inot to eat their hats or bags if I were you, but I would recommend any Max from Manila to Hawaii.
